Between the huge array of ombrés, balayage’d locks and Kylie Jenner inspired aqua hair, is a new bad boy in town: Gray hair a.k.a #Grannyhair. You heard that right! Long from crying after spotting a silver strand on their heads, people are actively painting their entire hair gray. With a lot of cebrities adopting the style, silvery hair has become the new blonde and, like blonde, it comes in many shades and variations.

I confess I wasn’t too sold on this new trend, and I’m still convinced that while my sister would rock it I would look absolutely weird. But, nevertheless, some people seem to be born to rock the grayscale look and with that in mind let’s see the most popular types of gray, who is wearing and how to get it without too much damage!
The first shade is what I like to call….

Going Full Granny

It’s an odd mix of beige and gray (graige?), a gray with a warmer undertone, and it looks absolutely like real granny hair. Sure Lady Gaga can rock it, but can you? Usually one toned this shade is what I consider the most shocking.

The next shade is my fave! And it is…

Silver Goodness

Usually a medium to light gray with white highlights that give the hair a moonlit shine to it. I find it to be one of the most modern looks.

The next few shades are more about takig the gray to the next level:

Dramatic Ombre

Either done less naturally or with a technique called smoked out roots, the hair goes from dark to light/medium gray. It can change your gray into edgy or sweet and soft.

And last but not least…

Tinted

Gray locks are light in color and can make it easy for you to finally rock that pastel hair you always wanted to. Painting the ends or tinting the entire hair makes the look fun and a bit reminiscent of how old ladies used to tint their hair blue and lilac.

Inspired? These celebrities also decided to take the gray route:

Are you inspired to have gray hair after seeing all those gorgeous pictures and celebrities rocking it? Great but calm your horses! Dying gray involves a lot of damaging techniques so you will need patience or a professional. Either way you must decide if it’s worth it and if your hair can take it. If you already have chemical treatments in you hair I’d advise to skip it or you could get a chemical cut like I did.

Love it? Hate it? Done it?

Let me know!
