I was going to buy some oil painting supplies at the only stationery store around here in Atlántida, Uruguay, when, within the few books they sell, a handful pile of english books caught my attention! If you have any experience you know how hard it is to find english books in non-speaking countries! Anyway, I was browsing and the one that most caught my fancy was Karin’s Slaughter’s mystery book “Blindsighted”. And I just didn’t resist getting it!
The book tells the story through the point of view of Sara, who lives in a small Georgia town that panics when a young and blind college professor is murdered and found brutally mutilated in the local diner. Sara, being the town pediatrician and coroner, does the autopsy and uncovers the true horrors of what was done to the woman.
Sara’s ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, leads the investigation — a trail of terror that grows increasingly macabre when another local woman is found crucified a few days later. But he’s got more than a sadistic serial killer on his hands, for the county’s sole female detective, Lena Adams — the first victim’s twin sister — want to serve her own justice and might get in trouble for it! In the end it is Sara’s past that can hold the key to finding the identity of the killer… and her death.
Let me tell you guys… this book is NO joke. Blindsighted is the first novel from Karin Slaughter, (which is her real name by the way! Fate, right?), and it is absolutely not only amazingly written, but also extremely gritty and not for the faint of heart!
Karin is to the point in her writing and she has no hesitancy to get the gruesome acts through in her writing. Although the story is very interesting and well constructed… for the first time in my life I found the murderer obvious from the start. Which, being honest, never happens to me. I expected a twist at the end, a shocking surprise but none came. I’m hesitant to continue the series, but if you like murder mysteries it might be the perfect read for you!
