He got up that morning with a purpose. It was his wife’s birthday and he had errands to run. He shaved, like he did every morning, put on a suit with old trembling hands and left the house. He got into his car, driving a few blocks to his favorite flower shop.

The owner welcomed him happily when she saw him. “Mr. Lewis, I almost forgot! Today is your wife’s birthday, isn’t it?!”

He smiled. “Yes, yes it is.”

“Will it be the Eustomas as always? I got a lovely new batch of the white ones with the purple trim you like.” She smiled happily pointing at them.

“Yes, those will be perfect.” He nodded.

She wrapped them up with a beautiful matching purple bow and ringed him up.

As he picked the bills and coins, she commented “You must love your wife so much. I’ve never seen a man so dedicated.” He laughed softly, shaking his head. “She deserves nothing less.” He paid and left. He walked back to his car, placing the flowers gently on the passengers seat. He buckled up and drove to meet with his wife. He turned on the radio, distracting himself on the ride there.

As he arrived, he parked and walked in, opening the old iron gate. He knew exactly where to go, he counted 1, 2,3…. 8. He stopped. “My love.” He whispered. He bent down and placed the bouquet on top of his wife’s grave, over the softly grown grass. “I love you very much.”

True love doesn’t fade away.
