What are the lines between A.I and humans? Are there any?

Ex Machina  is a 2015 British science fiction psychological thriller film written and directed by Alex Garland in his directing debut. It stars Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander and Oscar Isaac. Ex Machina tells the story of programmer Caleb Smith (Gleeson) who is invited by his employer, the eccentric billionaire Nathan Bateman (Isaac), to administer the Turing test to an android with artificial intelligence called AVA (Vikander).

Unlike most trailers, this one creates questions instead of answering them. It leads you to form an image that will be broken little by little as you watch the movie, shattering it at the end.

It might seem like it could be a boring movie,  you know the type; very slow, thoughtful even. But it’s not. Instead ex_machina surprises by passing by quickly and keeping you on edge. I give props to Garland who managed that with basically the same scenario, minimal character lines and less than a handful of characters.

It’s a movie that makes you ponder on the human aspect of A.I’s and how their presence in our world could affect us. But it also shows the nasty side of human nature. The reason this type of movie can be so haunting, is that we are indeed moving in that direction. Little by little more advanced robots are being created and Ican’t help but fear for our future.

The actors were amazing, with especial attention toAlicia Vikander who has again wowed me since The Danish Girl. Her part as an A.I required very delicate acting which she nailed with ease.

Have you seen it? Will you?

Do you think we should have advanced A.I’s such as the android in the movie?
