Slo-mo, explosion and lot’s of kicking ass is how the movie starts right off the bat. Heavily cgi’d and with jokes every couple of minutes, it does a good job of catching the audience’s interest from the very start.

I was super excited for this movie ever since I saw the first Avengers (thank Loki for making me hooked). When ‘Age of Ultron’ was officially announced I saw all the trailers and read the rumours, but once the date got closer I stopped myself from seeing any more previews, sneak-peeks and what not. And a week before I even gave up accessing facebook and tumblr just in case some spoilers popped up. You never know! And with the help of my otherwise inopportune memory, I had no idea what to expect.

I couldn’t go on the premiere because the tickets were all sold out but I did manage to snag one for two days after. When I purchased it, there was only 3D and usually I wouldn’t complain – if the 3D is worth the extra cost that is. But after watching it, I think it was mostly a capitalism thing to not offer a regular version of the movie. By being the most expected movie of 2015, selling more expensive certainly helped their profit, with no one having other choice unless they wanted to wait for TV. Now, we all know how 3D can vary from one film to another, it really all depends if they planned the movie specifically for it or not, making it vary from shocking explosions in your face to barely there added dimension. ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is definitely part of the latter group with the effect being mostly appreciated on the distancing between characters taking you further into the scene and adding realism. And although my wallet complains the… puny 3D, I actually do appreciate them optioning off from being too showy because it definitely doesn’t need it with it’s quick and fantastical-like scenes that can become almost overwhelming at times.

One of the biggest news revolving around this movie was the participation of James Spade as the villain; Ultron. And as much as I love James’s voice for it’s smoothness, low timber and clearness, that although perfectly suited for a villain it is not quite fit for a robot. Every time Ultron spoke my mind staggered to mix the humanity in his voice with his appearence and although they managed to successfully make all the tiny details of Spade’s acting and mannerism into Ultron, by tiredlessly filming him even when he wasn’t on a scene, at the same time it became a downfall for me. A robot so flexible with his facial movements didn’t quite match with his harsh metal-like appearence, making me ultimately crave for something more synthetic. And besides Ultron’s crazy bipolarity, the character was so much like the actors’s Blacklist “Red” character that made it even more confusing!

On a couple of other notes, another really disconcerting aspect of the movie was the new romantic aura between the Blackwidow and Hulk. It was right from the start with their gentle lullaby thing and got more and more flirty. And unless I’m crazy, which I don’t think I am regarding this, I’m pretty sure on the first ‘Avengers’ they made it seem like Hawkeye and her could become an item. This drastic and unwarned switch was really weird, especially after Hawkeye appears with wife and kids where they live in a “hidden” farm. By the end of the movie, as we welcome new Avengers, it seems like Hawkeye is retired, if not retiring very soon, and although Hulk runs away, Blackwidow is still part of the Avengers team and chances are we will see the big guy again. Honestly I do like this couple better, they understand each other better and create for more on-screen dynamism and drama.

Although there are a couple more little things I could nit-pick on, I’ll let you judge them by yourself. Maybe it won’t bother you and I’d rather not be ruining it for people unlike my mother, ahem. SO, if you still haven’t watched it may I know what in the heavens are you waiting for?! I hope it’s only for the movie to become available in your area, otherwise shame on you! Because this was the best Marvel movie from start to finish by far and I already want to watch it again.

Do you agree?
