I was surprised looking at this year’s Oscars looks, they were quite tame! Compared to 2014 and 2015 red carpets, this year was very covered up and classic. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing (I don’t know about you but I wasn’t keen to seeing near nudity again)! But I did find I missed seeing more risk takers!

Best Looks

Cate Blanchett is a queen to me, she always looks so refined in red carpets and she isn’t afraid of taking risks (as we’ve seen here). This type of cut in a dress always looks good on her and it was definitely the look that most stood out in this night’s red carpet – in this icy blue with delicate flowers framing a deep V neckline, this is my top favorite.

Lady Gaga drew attention online with her dress/pants hybrid. Gaga has been impressing lately on the red carpet by going with edgy but classic looks with old hollywood beauty, and this night it was no different!

Margot Robbie was a stunner in this sexy golden dress that hugger her body on all the right places. Unlike some of the other metallic dresses of the evening, the texture of this one was rich and gorgeous. (Anyone excited to see her in Suicide Squad soon?)

Rachel McAdams look is understated but I really loved the deep jewel tone combined with the halter cut, low back and long train. So chic, and let’s not forget the major slit on the front!

I’m usually not a fan of Sofia Vergara‘s over the top looks, but this deep blue gown was beautiful. The drapery and appliques were very well done and smartly placed without becoming overwhelming.

The main reason I liked Kerry Washington’s gown was the unusual choice – especially for an event like the Oscars! The white bottom with the leather corsetted top was very sexy and surprising.

Worst Looks

This dress worn by Amy Poehler was just crazy! The plants and blutterfly embroideries were already a bit too much but combined with the high cape and the high neckline this dressed swallowed her.

Alicia Vikander failed to impress in this bubbly pale yellow dress. The small details are odd, and the bottom is just a mess. The overall look has a too juvial tone to it.

Sophie Turner is young, so I understand going with a simpler dress. But the outdated gray shade and cut was not beautiful, and the finish and fit made it look like it was bought for her at Macy’s.

I love Olivida Wilde but this dress just didn’t work for me. The revealing and odd neckline/sleeve detail was unflattering and called attention for the wrong reasons.

Although I’m sure this look worn by Julianne Moore might not be in the worst dressed for many, I found this dress lacked appeal and was too rough and heavy looking – especially at the bottom.

Reese Witherspoon wasn’t the only one rocking this shade at the red carpet but unline Tina Fey’s gown, the smilirarity ended there. Unlike Tina‘s, this dress doesn’t hug Witherspoon right, the fabric is heavy and the neckline is a crumpled mess.

Ifs

I’m calling this the ‘ifs’ because these dresses with simple modifications could easily go from worst dressed to best dressed.

beforeandafter

Rooney Mara loves wearing delicately textured gowns in pale colors. My only issue with this dress is the diamond shaped cut-out on her rib-cage area. It’s very distracting. With a bit of editing, I removed the gape and to me the change turned it best dressed worthy! Do you agree?

Heidi Bloom Dress Oscars 2016

Heidi Klum always dresses different every time she is in the red carpet, she has no fear – and being the host of Project Runway and an ex-top model, I can understand why. My main issue with this dress is not the design (although I have my reservations), no, my problem with it, as you can see, is the color! The cool toned lilac in the original look just doesn’t suit Heidi‘s complexion! In my opinion, if it were paler or in a more burnt orange shade it would look a lot more flattering!
