I am not a big fan of summer weather, but I do enjoy the fashion trends that come with it. The warmer weather signals the time to tuck snow boots away and to pull sandals out. This summer, I have noticed a few summer shoe trends, and those trends seem to revolve around a revival of 70’s fashion, but don’t just take my word for it; take a look for yourself with this summer shoe edit.

Asos

The most common characteristic amongst summer shoes this summer is the thick leather straps, and these chic sliders from Asos are the perfect example. These sliders feature one very minimalistic thick leather strap, but the simplicity of it is contrasted by the tiger head detailing. Embellishments are still on trend this season, making these sliders the perfect summer shoe trend example.

Going off of the still prevalent embellishment trend, these sandals from River Island feature some heavy bling! These sandals are very on trend this summer for three reasons. First is of course the embellishments (along with the metal buckle that complements the jewels very nicely). Second is the nude pink color. Similar to embellishment, nude shades are still very in, and that works out nicely for these sandals. Third is the rubber look soles. According to the description, the soles here are actually plastic, but it has a rubber look that is also a common characteristic amongst summer shoes this year. I’m assuming it’s part of the 70’s revival.

This season, gladiators are back! I remember how obsessed I was with gladiators when they were all the rage during my senior year of high school. I’d wear them with shorts, with jeans, with dresses, with basically everything. So, imagine my joy when I see them make a comeback this season! The biggest difference between 2009’s gladiators and 2015’s gladiators is the thick leather straps. 2009’s gladiators leaned more on the dainty side while 2015’s gladiators make more of a statement with thicker straps and more complicated stringing detail.

Here again we have a nude shade in all its glory! This minimalistic design features thick leather straps again too. What’s on trend about these sandals by Next is not just the nude color or the thick straps but also the chunky heel, a feature that’s commonplace this summer. With the thick straps and the chunky heel, you’d think that it’d make these sandals very in-your-face, but it’s actually rather feminine. The nude shade, thin ankle strap, and thin sole offset the statement features really well.

Last but not least, how can we forget the summer trend that’s graced every single festival ground this season? Music festivals are one of my favorite things in the world, and the biggest thing I’ve noticed this year is the presence of fringed everything. Let’s try to spot some other summer shoe trends for this year: thick leather straps (check), embellishments (check)! Not only that but these sandals by New Look are the cheapest pair in this list!

So, if we were to summarize summer shoe trends for this season, we have the thick leather straps, embellishments, nude shades, rubber look soles, gladiator silhouettes, chunky heels, and fringes! Now get out there and get some (new shoes)!
